The metal work of the covered loading bay at Eanam Wharf was made by R&J Rankin Union Foundry in Liverpool. No doubt they were brought here by canal. These buildings were part of the modernisation of the canal in the face of railway competition. Rankin also made ironwork for railway stations and the covered wharf does have the look of a railway station.
